Olivia Boorom, MS, CCC-SLP

PhD Candidate, University of Kansas

About me

My name is Olivia Boorom, MS, CCC-SLP (she/her) and I'm a speech-language pathologist and PhD candidate in Speech-Language-Hearing at the University of Kansas. My research focuses on early communication skills in people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who are nonspeaking. My line of research seeks to understand how dyadic interactions can be leveraged to support communication outcomes in nonspeaking people and to identify novel methods for measuring communication skills in this population.

I am currently seeking both post-doctoral fellowship and tenure-track faculty positions to continue my line of research and grow my expertise in early communication development in IDD.

I completed my clinical fellowship and worked as an SLP in Nashville, TN at the Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab. I gained experience working with a highly interdisciplinary team on projects combining behavioral, neuroscience, genetics, and eye tracking approaches.

My research is informed by my clinical experience as an SLP. I specialize in diagnostics and early intervention for autistic children and their families, and I've continued to grow my clinical skills through training in new intervention approaches and by becoming a research-reliable ADOS-2 examiner.

Outside of the lab, I'm an avid runner, hiker, and backpacker and love exploring new places with my dog!
